Gary M. Samms
Gary M. Samms is a partner with Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel LLP. He is a member of the firm's Litigation and Healthcare Departments as well as the Intellectual Property Litigation Group.

Mr. Samms has comprehensive experience in complex civil litigation matters. His law practice concentrates in the areas of intellectual property law, patent and trademark litigation, complex civil litigation and commercial litigation.

Prior to joining Obermayer in 1998, Mr. Samms was a Trial Team Leader at McGuckin & McCarthy, P.C., where he handled numerous medical malpractice defense files and supervised counsel and staff. He has tried well over 75 major jury trials and has had success in Federal and State court as well as arguing before the Superior and Appellate Courts. He is also a former founder and litigation partner at Maturano, Patete & Samms, whose practice focused on civil litigation and criminal defense. In addition, he has directed litigation involving numerous and various injunction matters. He began his career clerking for the Honorable Robert J. Shenkin of the Chester County Court of Common Pleas. Mr. Samms has gained recognition for his trial work, most recently being named to "Pennsylvania 50 on the Fast Track" by his peers in 2001.

Mr. Samms received his Bachelor of Science degree from West Chester University, West Chester, PA. He was awarded his Juris Doctor from the University of Arkansas School of Law, Fayetteville, AK, where he was editor of the Waterman Journal and a member of the Honor Committee.

Mr. Samms is a recognized speaker and lecturer. He has also been published in various health care publications on topics varying from Informed Consent to Selecting an Expert. He also serves as a Judge Pro Tem for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas and serves as a trained mediator.

He is a past president of the Chester County Bar Association, Young Lawyer Division. He has also served on the Board of Directors for both the Chester County Bar Foundation and the Chester County Bar Association (1991-94). He is listed in Who's Who Among Rising Young Americans (1994-95).

Mr. Samms is a member of St. Patrick's Men's Club, is solicitor for the Turks Head Athletic Club, and volunteers with the American Inns of Courts, John Stively Chapter. He was previously a member of the Chester County Mental Health and Mental Retardation Subcommittee on Human Rights (1993-96) and the East Whiteland Planning Commission (1993-96).

Mr. Samms is a member of the Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and American Bar Associations. He is admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania, in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He is also active in the Defense Research Institute.
